“Providing training solutions and job opportunities in the RHT industry”
The California Community College system is composed of 114 community colleges throughout the state. It is the largest system of higher education in the world, serving more than 2.4 million students annually with a wide variety of educational and career goals, such as transfer to 4-year universities and career & technical education. In Los Angeles and Orange County alone, there are a total of 28 campuses of which have an invested interest in retail, hospitality and tourism programs to offer students.
Through a new statewide framework, Doing What Matters for Jobs and the Economy, colleges are supported with funding to develop interactive events and activities that promote a long-term career pathway in retail, hospitality and tourism (RHT). Identified as a “priority sector” in the Orange County region, RHT focuses on supporting and collaborating with employers from shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, resorts and tourist attractions, in and around the OC, to create innovative training programs that lead students to job opportunities and long-term careers in these industries.
This collaboration, led by a Deputy Sector Navigator, allows for employers to close the skills gaps of the workforce by providing industry-based input toward innovative training to better prepare a pool of talent from which to recruit for hiring and/or to promote.
